‘Hogarth Goes Global’
Young people from Hogarth Youth Centre initiate a partnership with a local charity to support a school in Gambia. Upon the young people discovering that the charity supports a nursery, orphanage, school and community centre in Gambia the young people approached youth workers and initiated discussions about fundraising for ERASE. The young people have led on the partnership and have made a commitment to support the school.
ERASE stands for Ending Reliance And Supporting Empowerment. Its main objective is to provide resources and assistance to communities in Gambia. ERASE works to build social capital by supporting self-empowerment and hopes to end the dependency culture that currently exists.
The young people have started to construct fundraising ideas and have re-opened the car wash in order to raise the funds. The young people’s plans to raise money included a ‘onesie day’ at the youth centre, cake sales, fun days and more. They are looking forward to the challenge of organising events in order to provide for people more needy than themselves and organising events in their local community.
